Best Kiteboarding and Wing-foiling spots in Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua was born by a volcano from which reefs were formed. These reefs, including Barbuda, now form the ultimate playground by keeping the ocean swell out, allowing the wind to go free. A catamaran, with its shallow draft, is ideal for accessing these perfect spots and getting close to the shore.

These are few most popular kite and wing spots ONLY reachable with a boat. However, there are many more spots we can choose from, depending on your preferences, your skill level, and your desired itinerary.

What to Expect on Antigua and Barbuda kite and wing cruise

This video showcases Antigua and Barbuda as the ultimate kiteboarding and wing-foiling destination. It provides insights into the perfect wind conditions, travel itinerary, and unique experiences you’ll encounter.

The video also highlights the vibrant nightlife of Antigua, the serene remoteness of Barbuda, and other activities for non-kiting guests. The all-inclusive experience includes a personal chef and safety measures. Traveling here is easy.

Tradewinds

The trade winds or easterlies are the permanent east-to-west prevailing winds that flow across the Caribbean.  They are strengthening during the winter and when the Arctic oscillation is in its warm phase. Trade winds have been used by captains of sailing ships to cross the world’s oceans for centuries. They enabled colonial expansion into the Americas, and trade routes to become established across the Atlantic Ocean.

A boat offers significant advantages when it comes to wind conditions, as the wind doesn’t always blow uniformly across all locations. With a boat, we have the flexibility to chase the wind in areas where it is lacking and find better, safer locations when the wind is too strong. This adaptability allows you to make the most of the varying wind conditions, ensuring an optimal experience whether you are sailing, kiteboarding, or simply enjoying the weather.

Kite and Wing sizes

Choosing the appropriate kite and wing sizes is crucial to fully enjoy this trip! We recommend bringing 8m and 11m kites for a 70 kg (154 lbs) rider, 10m and 13m kites for an 80 kg (176 lbs) rider, and 11m and 15m kites for heavier riders. Ideally, you would need 3 different kite sizes to cover all wind strength options, but we know that traveling with excessive luggage is a nightmare. We offer kite equipment rental to reduce your luggage and can complement the kite you don’t intend to bring.

For wing sizes, we recommend bringing 3.0m and 5.0m wings for a 70 kg (154 lbs) rider, 4.0m and 6.0m wings for an 80 kg (176 lbs) rider, and 5m and 7.5m wings for heavier riders. The choice of wing foil board should depend on your weight and experience. Rental options and lessons are available if needed. We offer wing rental to reduce your luggage, especially since the wing-foil board can be challenging to travel with, and can complement some of the gear you are bringing.

After 10 years running Kiteboarding Cruise, people have a lot to say about us

brian miller review

It was an absolutely fantastic week! We could not have asked for a better week-long experience. Tomaz went out of his way to find the perfect kiting spots and on non-wind days we were able to snorkel, swim, SUP and/or venture onto quaint Greek islands.

Andreas Limbouris review

An exceptional captain and kiteboarding instructor who made us feel part of a crew. He went above and beyond in meeting the expectations of both kiteboarders and non-kiteboarders, made us feel safe on-board and is certainly someone you would enjoy spending time with

What an amazing trip! Tomaz and Dasa were so helpful in setting up logistics, and Jose and Maria were an amazing captain/chef combo! So accommodating and genuinely fun! The food was amazing, and the kiting even better! The most epic kite spots I’ve ever kited!

Chris Nunn
review

The trip was epic. I highly recommend it to anybody who is in love with the sea and kiting. Tomaz, the captain is knowledgeable of both sailing and kiting. We were five kiters celebrating a b-day. Tomaz took very good care of us. He brought us to areas unreachable by land with steady side-shore or off-shore winds. He was always available with the tender boat to assist when necessary. Peace of mind for new kiters or Wing goers. Tomaz has a calm attitude and he gave us different options every day about our itinerary..

The catamaran is spacious, comfortable and beautiful. Tomas is a very experienced captain and made sure we had the best conditions and experience. He was very helpful with the kite setup process and keeping an eye out when you are riding. Chef Bernard prepared some of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had and also helped the kiters when needed.. Both are awesome personalities and bring the whole trip to life..

I AM SO GLAD I DID THIS!!! I can’t say enough great things about this trip- it was amazing! The kite spots were wide open and beautiful, the food was delicious, and Alvaro and Stefano were fun company throughout, going above and beyond to make sure my trip hit a high note. A special shoutout to both of them! I loved the kiting footage as well, the drone shots were a real bonus. Many thanks to Tomaz and Dasa for a great week, it was a pleasure meeting you, and I hope to catch you all again in Greece ?

Roger Anderson review

We all greatly appreciated the wonderful meals, keeping the adventure safely moving, and rescuing us when our kites pulled us out into the ocean. This was definately a “Bucket List” adventure with no disappointments.

Roger Anderson

We’ve just returned from our second fantastic holiday with KBC Marco and Mr. were brilliant hosts and made the week stress-free, relaxing and fun. Nothing was too much effort for them, and they really put themselves out to make our week as enjoyable as possible. The group we met on the boat were so much fun and made the whole experience really memorable..

CREDIBILITY

Our Commitment to Your Peace of Mind

We know that booking a vacation online can make you worry. You might wonder, “Will there be a boat waiting for us?” or “Can we trust this company with our vacation?” These are big questions, especially when you have to pay a lot upfront. That’s why we’ve put together some important facts to help you feel more assured and to show you that you can always reach out to us.

We started back in 2013, and a decade later, we’re still going strong, eager to make the next ten years even more memorable. And here’s something we’re really proud of: in all this time, we’ve never canceled a single charter! Not even when it costs us a small fortune back then, we not once cancel our cruise. It’s our commitment to reliability.

There are companies specializing in what we offer, so you have a choice. By not choosing the right company, you risk missing out on your dream vacation—or worse, you could end up without a vacation at all. You might be willing to compromise on some aspects of your trip, but compromising on your and your family’s safety should be a major concern. Choose wisely to ensure both a memorable and safe experience.

We’re not about just ‘good enough.’ We go all-in. Think of it like this: our cruises might cost a bit more, but we pack them with value. All-inclusive? It means top-notch meals, safety-first on the water, and a crew that knows their stuff and knows how to have a good time. We set up our boats to be your floating slice of paradise. So, while we might not be the cheapest, we ensure you get the most value for your money. And honestly, we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Do you remember the COVID times? When travel stopped, and all bookings were canceled? Our boat was ready on the spot destination, but people couldn’t travel. It was beyond anyone’s control. We are proud to say we made sure no one lost their money. We rescheduled every single trip for later months, even years. Who else can say they did that?

We are visible all over social media so you can catch us on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok documenting it all so you can scroll back and see everything from day one. No secrets here, just us doing what we love and sharing it with the world.

For direct communication, our WhatsApp number +12687193930 is available during daylight hours, including weekends and holidays.

When comparing different kite and wing-foil cruise providers, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re choosing the best option for your needs that you might not be aware of at the moment of booking. Here’s a list of key points and questions you might consider before making a decision:

How many weeks have you organized and executed? It’s important to ask about weeks, not years, as years can be misleading. Some companies might only operate one week per year. It’s also crucial to understand their experience in a specific location, which can lead to safety concerns.

Is this your main business, operating year-round, or just a summer/winter hobby? It’s important to understand the extent of their involvement, as we’ve found many people do this for fun and excitement before returning to their office job after a few weeks.

What kind of rescue boat do you use to keep people safe while they are out on the water, and how powerful is the outboard motor? This question is important to determine if they have the means to keep you safe, rather than just the intention.

Is the catamaran you use yours, or are you renting it bareboat from a charter agency? This question reveals how much control the tour provider has over the boat and its features and equipment for these niche activities, and how well they actually know the boat. Again, this is a safety issue that will affect your vacation.

Next, you’ll want to ask if they offer kiteboarding and wing-foiling equipment. This shows they are serious about what they do, meaning they must have experience in planning and hiring the right people. This is a green light.

Not that you need the lessons, but still ask if they provide kiteboarding and wing-foiling lessons. If they offer lessons with their own equipment, they must be aware of the difficulty of keeping everyone safe at the same time, including other people on the water and the student. This is a green light.

FAQ

Our carefully crafted itinerary includes the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. Please read this in combination with the content in “How the Day Looks” to get a better idea of what to expect.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1, Saturday: Begin your adventure in Jolly Harbour marina, a resort village on the west coast of the island. There’s no kite or wing session on the first day, but you are welcome to get some action at Jabberwock beach or just relax at the swimming pool a few meters from the catamaran before boarding at 6 pm.

Day 2, Sunday: Today, we head towards Red Head Island, a kite and wing spot on the east side. Spend the day honing your kiteboarding and wing-foiling skills under the guidance of our crew. Besides the kite and wing agenda, you can enjoy swimming, the beach, snorkeling, or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding. We’ll anchor for the night at the tranquil Great Bird Island.

Day 3, Monday: Our next stop is Cocoa Point on the southern tip of Barbuda, an incredible mirror-flat kite and wing spot. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this Princess Diana’s sandy beach and turquoise waters. For interested parties, we can arrange a bird-watching land-based exploration together with unique caves and a pink beach.

Day 4, Tuesday: On day 4, we sail to Spanish Point, still on Barbuda, known for its spectacular coral reefs, making it a perfect spot not just for kite and wing-foiling but also for snorkeling and diving. You can see colorful marine life and an impressive underwater landscape.

Day 5, Wednesday: Early morning sail to Stingray Reef. Besides kite and wing exercises, you get to spend the day at Stingray Reef, a hidden gem offering a unique experience to swim with stingrays in their natural habitat.

Day 6, Thursday: The famous Green Island is just around the corner. A small uninhabited island off the east coast of Antigua is believed by many to be the best kite and wing-foil spot in the entire Caribbean. Also, the beaches are pristine, and the surrounding coral reefs are vibrant and teeming with life, indeed a paradise.

Day 7, Friday: Cades Reef – The last day of our journey takes us to Cades Reef, Antigua’s largest coral reef. It’s a snorkeler’s paradise, with a variety of marine life and stunning underwater views. After a full day of exploration, we’ll return to Jolly Harbour, marking the end of our unforgettable journey through Antigua and Barbuda.

Depending on wind conditions, people’s preferences, and kiteboarding/wing-foiling skills, the itinerary will be adjusted. We aim to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience, bringing you to perfect spots at the right times while avoiding rough seas. It’s possible the itinerary may miss some places described while spending more time in others, all with the agreement of everybody on board.

Our days are full of fun and amazing views. Here’s what a usual day in Antigua and Barbuda might be like:

Our day commences with breakfast at 8 am, thoughtfully prepared by our skilled chef. We are accommodating to all dietary needs and preferences, allowing you to relish your meal with ease.

Mornings are set aside for kiteboarding and wing-foiling. Our crew will help you get on the water as fast as possible. Regardless of your skill level, our team will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Throughout the day, you have the opportunity to snorkel, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), and explore pristine beaches. The turquoise Caribbean waters surrounding Antigua and Barbuda are ideal for snorkeling, offering a chance to encounter vibrant marine life and take in the stunning underwater scenery.

Our chef makes a tasty lunch, and we eat at 1 pm, right on board. After lunch, we might move to a new place, or we might stay and keep doing water activities. We then sail to the next spot the next morning.

At 6 pm, we have dinner on board. Our chef prepares a yummy three-course meal that is a great way to end the day. After dinner, you can relax on the boat or talk and have a drink with the crew. Twice during the week, you get to eat out and enjoy the villages, learn about Antiguan culture, and possibly enjoy the lively nightlife.

In short, it’s the perfect mix of fun, relaxation, and learning about the culture. That’s what makes a day in Antigua and Barbuda so special.

The best kite and wing locations are scattered all across the east coast of Antigua and the southwest coast of Barbuda. They are all only accessible by boat. A catamaran, with its shallow draft, is ideal for reaching these perfect spots and getting close to the shore. Depending on your preferences, wind conditions, and cruise duration, you can choose to explore Cocoa Point, Green Island, Spanish Point, Five Islands, Stingray Reef, Red Head, Cades Reef, Prickly Pear Island, and more.

In the Caribbean, the wind is generally consistent across all locations; however, being on a boat still offers significant advantages. Leveraging our experience and knowledge, we select different locations based on the wind strength during the week. Some spots perform best with stronger winds, while others might be more enjoyable in lighter wind conditions. Our ability to move freely and select the ideal locations for the prevailing wind strength ensures an optimal experience, whether you’re kiteboarding, sailing, or simply soaking up the weather.

Taking kite/wing/foil lessons from a boat provides several advantages. Firstly, the instructor is always within close proximity to the student, enabling them to provide guidance and feedback in real-time while ensuring the student’s safety. The instructor can also escort the student with a motorboat, bringing them upwind and saving them time and energy that would otherwise be spent walking back upwind on the beach or water. Moreover, during a brief break-up-wind drive, students can receive additional tips on how to improve their skills and take a well-deserved break.

The optimal time to visit Antigua for kitesurfing, kite foiling, wing foiling, and sailing is during the dry season, which spans from November to July. This period offers the perfect blend of strong and reliable trade winds, and warm, sunny weather. During these months, Antigua bustles with visitors from around the globe, creating a vibrant atmosphere with lively nightlife and open restaurants.

The optimal location for beginners to learn kitesurfing, kiteboarding, and wing foiling in Antigua and Barbuda is where the schools features skilled staff who are knowledgeable about the local area and weather conditions, and where there is enough space away from crowded areas. With the increase in sargassum seaweed on the beaches, our use of a catamaran and a rescue boat for our lessons helps us avoid these areas, providing a clear and clean space for learning. Our kite and wing foil school delivers private instruction, ensuring one-on-one attention, and utilizes the latest kite/wing/foil gear and teaching techniques. We also provide continuous motor-boat assistance and unlimited upwind motor-boat reach. This way, we can access more secure and secluded areas, away from the crowds and potential beach hazards, including sargassum. Thus, we ensure the safety of our students and provide an environment conducive to faster learning, without compromising on the quality of our lessons.

In typical onshore conditions, it can take around 16 hours to learn how to kitesurf. However, when learning from our boat, you can learn in as little as 6-8 hours. There are several reasons why this method is more effective. Firstly, our instructors can provide constant feedback and guidance throughout the lesson as they remain close to the student. Secondly, we conduct our lessons in private areas away from crowds, minimizing distractions and increasing focus. Thirdly, we utilize a motorboat to bring the student upwind, giving them time to rest and regain their strength. Fourthly, we do not include the time needed to assemble and disassemble equipment within the lesson hour, ensuring that students receive the full hour for instruction. Finally, students can take short breaks at any time and enjoy refreshments like water that we carry on board the boat.

The worst months to visit Antigua and Barbuda for water sports like kitesurfing, wing-foiling, and sailing are generally during the peak of the hurricane season, which is from August to October. During this time, the weather can be unpredictable and storms or hurricanes can occur. Furthermore, the winds can be inconsistent, which is not ideal for kitesurfing and wing-foiling activities. During this time, we offer kitesurfing, kiteboarding, and wing foiling cruises in the Mediterranean, in Croatia and Greece.

Yes, this cruise is suitable for you even if you’re still working on your upwind skills in kiteboarding or wing-foiling. It seems you do not need additional lessons but merely assistance. Instead of providing formal lessons, our experienced crew will offer you “Assistance.” This approach allows you to save some money and progress quickly to become an independent rider.
