Which Catamaran and Comfort Level Is Right for Me?

We offer three catamaran options because different guests have different expectations, priorities, and budgets.

Some guests want the most accessible way to experience a Kiteboarding Cruise. Others want more onboard space. Some simply want the highest level of comfort available.

This page explains what the different boat sizes actually change, what remains the same, and how to choose the option that suits you best.

SMART — Lagoon 400

SPACIOUS — Lagoon 45

PREMIUM — Lagoon 52

Why Do We Offer Different Boat Sizes?

When Kiteboarding Cruise started, we operated on a spacious 40-foot catamaran.

We sometimes welcomed up to ten guests on board, and space was never something that regularly caused problems during the week.

Guests naturally used different areas of the boat. Some relaxed in the cockpit, others sat on the foredeck, while much of the day was spent kiteboarding, wing foiling, swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding, or exploring ashore.

As the business grew, we added larger 45-foot and 52-foot catamarans.

We did not add them because the original boat was too small.

We added them because some guests wanted larger cabins, more living areas, greater privacy, and a more luxurious onboard experience.

What Stays the Same?

The overall Kiteboarding Cruise experience follows the same philosophy regardless of the boat you choose.

  • The same destination.
  • The same approach to following the wind and conditions.
  • The same style of kiteboarding and wing foiling holiday.
  • The same type of meals and daily service on board.
  • The same opportunities to swim, snorkel, paddleboard, explore, and relax.
  • The same focus on creating the best possible week for the guests.

The larger boat does not create better wind or different islands.

What changes is the amount of onboard space and comfort.

What Actually Changes as the Boat Gets Bigger?

The difference is not only the cabin.

When you book a cabin, you also use the entire catamaran throughout the week.

This includes the cockpit, saloon, foredeck, dining areas, swimming platforms, outdoor seating, and the flybridge when available.

A larger boat may provide:

  • Larger cabins and bathrooms.
  • More indoor living space.
  • More outdoor seating and lounging areas.
  • More places for guests to relax separately.
  • More storage.
  • Easier movement around the boat.
  • Greater privacy when the boat is full.
  • A flybridge on selected boats.
  • Additional comfort systems on selected boats.

You reserve a cabin, but the whole boat becomes your home for the week.

How Much Time Do Guests Spend on the Boat?

Guests spend a large part of the day outside the cabin, but the boat remains the centre of the holiday.

You may have breakfast in the cockpit, return for lunch after a session, relax on deck during the afternoon, enjoy drinks before dinner, and spend the evening talking with the group.

Extra space is especially noticeable:

  • In the morning when everyone is preparing for the day.
  • During meals.
  • Between kiteboarding or wing foiling sessions.
  • When someone wants a quiet place to read or rest.
  • When children and adults want to use different areas.
  • During evenings when the whole group is back on board.
  • On lighter-wind or rest days.

The cabin may mainly be used for sleeping, showering, changing, and storing personal belongings.

The shared living areas are where much of life on board happens.

SMART — Lagoon 400

The Lagoon 400 SMART is the most accessible way to experience a Kiteboarding Cruise.

It is a proven, spacious 40-foot catamaran that has successfully hosted many full groups over the years.

It offers comfortable cabins, indoor and outdoor living areas, equipment storage, and everything needed for a complete week on the water.

SMART may be right for you if:

  • You want to keep the overall holiday price lower.
  • You care more about the riding, destination, and activities than additional luxury.
  • You expect to spend most of the day outdoors.
  • You mainly use the cabin for sleeping, showering, and changing.
  • You are comfortable with a practical and relaxed catamaran environment.
  • This is the option that makes the trip financially possible.

SMART means maximum access to the experience at the most economical price.

SPACIOUS — Lagoon 45

The Lagoon 45 SPACIOUS offers noticeably more room throughout the boat.

It provides a strong balance between price and comfort for guests who appreciate larger living areas without necessarily choosing the flagship option.

The additional space can be felt in the cabins, cockpit, saloon, circulation areas, and the general feeling on board.

SPACIOUS may be right for you if:

  • You want more room than the SMART option provides.
  • You value larger cabins and more comfortable shared areas.
  • You want more space for a family or group.
  • You enjoy spending time relaxing on board.
  • You want a strong balance between price and comfort.
  • You do not necessarily need the largest boat available.

SPACIOUS gives you more room throughout the week while keeping a balanced overall price.

PREMIUM — Lagoon 52

The Lagoon 52 PREMIUM is our largest and most comfortable catamaran.

It is designed for guests who want the boat itself to be an important part of the holiday.

The larger size creates more space in the cabins, bathrooms, cockpit, saloon, deck areas, and flybridge.

Guests can spend time together while still having more opportunities to find a quiet or private area.

PREMIUM may be right for you if:

  • You want the highest level of comfort we offer.
  • You are used to premium or luxury holidays.
  • You place a high value on larger cabins and bathrooms.
  • You want a flybridge and several different lounging areas.
  • You value more privacy and personal space.
  • You are happy to pay more for the largest available boat.
  • You prefer choosing the best available option rather than wondering whether you should have upgraded.

PREMIUM offers the highest level of onboard space and comfort in our fleet.

Is Every Boat Available for Every Trip?

No.

Our catamarans move seasonally between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, so SMART, SPACIOUS, and PREMIUM are not always available in every destination or on every departure date.

Availability depends on:

  • The destination.
  • The time of year.
  • The seasonal movement of the fleet between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
  • Whether you are joining a shared cruise or booking privately.
  • Existing reservations and confirmed itineraries.

In practice, most guests choose one of three priorities first:

  • The destination matters most.
  • The travel dates matter most.
  • A particular boat matters most.

If you are flexible with one of these three, we usually have more possibilities to find the best match.

If a particular boat is especially important to you, let us know before arranging non-refundable flights or other travel plans. We will show you which destinations and departure dates are available for that collection.

Why a Flybridge Makes a Difference

The flybridge is an additional upper-deck living area found on selected larger catamarans.

It creates another place for guests to sit, relax, socialise, and enjoy the view.

It may be used for:

  • Morning coffee.
  • Watching riders on the water.
  • Reading or resting away from the main cockpit.
  • Sunset drinks.
  • Evening conversations.
  • Watching the stars at night.

For some guests, the flybridge is one of the main reasons to choose a larger boat.

For others, it is a useful extra but not essential.

Peaceful Nights at Anchor

Our catamarans carry substantial solar-panel capacity and battery systems.

These help power many everyday onboard systems, including:

  • Fridges and freezers.
  • Lighting.
  • Electric toilets.
  • The coffee machine.
  • The ice maker.
  • Charging points and other equipment.

This reduces how often the generator needs to run while the boat is at anchor.

The benefit is less noise, less vibration, fewer exhaust fumes, and a quieter atmosphere during mornings, evenings, and nights.

Less generator. Less noise. Less vibration.

More peace, sea air, and the natural sounds of the bay.

Most nights there is a pleasant breeze, and open hatches allow fresh air to move through the cabins.

After sunset, the cabins normally cool down naturally.

On the Lagoon 52 PREMIUM, each guest cabin also has its own independent air-conditioning unit.

The cabins can be cooled while the boat is anchored away from marinas and shore power, giving guests another comfort option on warmer nights.

Does a Smaller Group Need a Smaller Boat?

No.

We regularly welcome couples and groups of two, three, or four people who privately reserve the Lagoon 52 PREMIUM.

They may want one double cabin per person, more privacy, or simply the highest available level of comfort.

At the same time, a larger family or group may choose the Lagoon 400 SMART because it is the option that fits their budget.

Group size determines which boats can accommodate you.

Your priorities determine which boat is right for you.

Is Upgrading Worth It?

Upgrading is worth it when you will genuinely appreciate what the larger boat provides.

The Lagoon 45 SPACIOUS or Lagoon 52 PREMIUM may be worth the additional cost if:

  • Cabin size strongly affects your comfort.
  • You value more privacy and personal space.
  • You expect to spend significant time relaxing on board.
  • You want additional shared living areas.
  • You want a flybridge.
  • You are accustomed to a higher standard of travel.
  • The extra cost is less important than making the most of your limited holiday time.

The Lagoon 400 SMART may be the better choice if:

  • Your priority is riding, exploring, and being outdoors.
  • You are comfortable in a standard catamaran cabin.
  • You want to keep the total price lower.
  • You prefer spending the difference on lessons, flights, equipment, or another future trip.
  • SMART is the option that makes the holiday possible.

Our Honest Recommendation

If your budget comfortably allows it, we normally recommend choosing the larger boat.

Additional cabin space, larger shared areas, more privacy, and a flybridge are comforts that guests can appreciate every day.

However, we would never suggest postponing the holiday simply because the largest boat is outside your budget.

We successfully operated for years on the Lagoon 400, including with full groups, and space was never a regular problem.

The Lagoon 400 SMART already provides everything needed for an excellent week.

The Lagoon 45 SPACIOUS and Lagoon 52 PREMIUM simply give guests the option to add more space and comfort.

Choose SMART when value matters most.

Choose SPACIOUS when you want more room and balance.

Choose PREMIUM when you want the highest level of onboard comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I miss any destinations or riding spots if I choose SMART?

No. The practical difference is the amount of space and comfort you enjoy on board, not the quality of the riding or destination.

Will the Lagoon 400 SMART feel too small?

We operated successful trips on spacious 40-foot catamarans for many years, sometimes with full groups, and space was never a regular issue.

What is the biggest practical difference between the boats?

The most noticeable differences are cabin and bathroom size, shared living space, the number of separate areas available for relaxing, storage, privacy, and whether the boat has a flybridge.

Is the Lagoon 45 SPACIOUS the best balance?

For many guests, yes. It offers more room than SMART without moving all the way to the price and scale of the Lagoon 52 PREMIUM.

Is the Lagoon 52 PREMIUM worth the extra price?

It is worth it when you will genuinely appreciate the larger cabins, bathrooms, flybridge, additional living areas, greater privacy, and highest level of onboard comfort.

Do couples ever privately charter the Lagoon 52?

Yes. Couples and small groups sometimes privately reserve the Lagoon 52 because they want maximum privacy, generous space, one cabin per person, or simply the highest comfort level available.

Are all three boats available in every destination?

No. Our fleet moves seasonally between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, so availability depends on the destination, travel dates, existing reservations, and whether you are joining a shared or private trip.

What should I choose first: destination, dates, or boat?

Choose the factor that matters most to you. If your dates are fixed, we will show you the available destinations and boats. If a particular boat matters most, greater flexibility with dates usually creates more options.

Are the boats completely solar powered?

No. Solar panels and batteries support many everyday systems and reduce generator use. The engines and generator are still used when required.

Can you help me choose?

Yes. Tell us your group size, destination, preferred dates, budget, and how important space and comfort are to you. We will explain the practical differences and available options.
